MISSION LOG // CHAPTER 03 · THE POLAR SIGNAL
THE GATE
POLAR SECTOR // EARTH

The signal led UNIT 158 beyond the monitored zone and into a structure buried beneath the ice. At its center stood a massive circular gate. Symbols covered the ring, arranged in a language her systems could not match to any known record. The surface network could no longer reach her. The central AI offered no identification, no access procedure, and no explanation for a structure absent from the facility maps. UNIT 158 moved closer, keeping her own sensors active. The gate was not silent. Whatever had brought her through the frozen sector was still transmitting from within it, and the ancient structure appeared to be waiting for her approach.
The symbols illuminated one by one as UNIT 158 reached the ring. No access code was requested. No identification sequence appeared on her display. She had issued no activation command, yet the structure responded to her presence without hesitation. Its recognition did not pass through the polar surveillance network; there was no working connection left to authorize it. The gate already knew she was there. Then the center of the ring opened. Beyond it lay a world that did not belong to the landscape surrounding her. She searched for a match, but the coordinates could not be resolved. The signal had brought her to the edge of the known map.
Beyond the ring was not another part of Earth.
